Crockmaster Machine

Ø Work : Color
fastness to rubbing.
Ø
Subject : Color fastness
to rubbing is basic test used by customers
to determine the quality of a colored
fabric. This test is designed
to determine the amount of color transfer red from the surface of
colored textile material too the rsurfaces
by rubbing. It is applicable
to textile made from all fibers in the Form of yarn or fabric
whether
dyed, printed or otherwise colored.
Ø Machine
configuration & equipment:
v
Crockmaster consisting of : A circular
rubbing surface finger measuring 16 mm
in diameter exerting down ward force of 9N when moving back and forth along a
straight line track of
100
mm on the specimen.
v
Cotton rubbing fabric :The rubbing fabric
shall comply with ISO105-F
Section F09 the fabric
must not contain Fluorescent brighteners,
Sizing material or any finish.
v
Grey
Scales Staining.
v

Dry Rubbing:
ü Use
the holding clamp to mount the specimen on the baseboard of the Crockmaster. The
longdirectionofthespecimenisparalleltothetrackofrubbing.Ensurethespecimen lays flat
on the baseboard.
ü Two
tests are performed, one along the direction of the warp/length and the other of the weft/width.
ü MountadryrubbingclothflatovertheendofthepegontheCrockmasterandhold
it taut by means of the spring clip provided. Ensure that the rubbing cloth is not placed
on the direction direction that the peg is moving.
ü Rest the finger on the specimen, ensuring that the spring clip is not in contact with
the tests specimen.
ü Rub the specimen back and forth over as traight track 100 mm + 8 mm long for 10
complete cycles(i.e.10 times back and forth)at a rate of 1 second for each cycle.
ü It may be necessary to stretch some fabric son to the base of the Crockmeter,to
prevent the fabric from rucking up.
Wet Rubbing:
ü Wet
out a rubbing cloth with distilled/de-ionised water to have about 100% pick up.
A suitable method is as follows, How ever any method where the rubbing cloth picks
up its own mass in water is acceptable.
ü Itisimportanttounderstandthequalityofwaterusedhere.Asperstandards,Grade
3water is a must.
ü Weigh
the dry rubbing cloth and then thoroughly wet out in distilled/de-ionised
water, squeeze the wet rubbing cloth between blotting paper and re-weigh on the
balance . Make adjustments as necessary by either blotting of more water or re-wetting.
ü Use
the following method tocalculate 100% pick up of water-original weight of
rubbing cloth X 2(65% in AATCC method)
ü Carry out the appropriate test as the procedure for dry rubbing.
ü Allow the tested rubbing cloth to dry at room temperature.
